Jays drop two at the Trop

I don’t know what it is about Tampa, but the Blue Jays are certainly snakebitten by the Rays. The Jays pitching couldn’t hold early leads Friday or Saturday (which I watched in person), and save for a ninth inning rally that fell short, the bats were anemic, and the Jays now find themselves in a tie for first with Boston.  There is some urgency now to salvage today’s finale.

I had vowed never to watch a game at the Trop, it looks terrible on TV.  In person, it wasn’t as terrible as I expected but it still isn’t ideal. It is brighter and smaller in person but there is too much navy blue everywhere. The concession areas are large and spacious but the Atari-era auxillary scoreboards give the place the feel of an outdated junior hockey rink. It is easy to get to and parking was close by and ample.

It was an interesting experience, as I had the privilege of meeting one of Josh Donaldson’s grade school teachers and her husband, and we ended up with a foul ball thanks to them.  Aside from that, I won’t be telling any tales out of school, so to speak…lots of Jays fans made the trip so we didn’t feel out of place. Now what to do with my Logan Forsythe bobblehead…
