The Blue Jays announced this morning Aaron Sanchez has been optioned to single-A Dunedin, with Aaron Loup called up. I’m sure the news is catching a few fans off guard, but it makes much sense. The Jays, who are obviously trying to limit Sanchez’s innings, are skipping his next start so he can start in Baltimore, likely on August 31. Best to save your best for a rival you’re fighting for the division with than start him against the Angels or Twins this week. The Jays’ training facility is in Dunedin, so it makes more sense for him to go there to work out than to go to triple-A Buffalo. It also means the Jays can have two lefties in the pen for the rest of the season if they want, as rosters expand September 1, the day after the Baltimore series wraps up. I actually spoke about this possibility on Friday.

Skipping Sanchez next start would allow
#BlueJays to use him vs. Baltimore.. rather he faces them than Twins…
UPDATE: With Pillar and Bautista due to come off the DL this week, more roster moves can be expected. Loup, Tepera and Goins have options, so it’s likely two of them will be temporarily sent down until September 1.
